Some random thoughts 5
Longing in the snow and looking back on the semester

It’s been a long time since I wrote anything, so here I am writing a little. It’s not as if I absolutely have to. It’s just that once the thought of writing takes root, something seems to knot up inside me until I get it out.
I’ve spent the Christmas break eating, drinking, and having fun, and it’s been pretty happy. The one thing missing is that “the one I long for is on the far side of the water”—and that “one” is across the Pacific. Of course there’s longing, but separation is inevitable, and our reunion is certain too. So I’m not all that sad. Besides, longing goes rather well with all this falling snow.
It’s helpful to reflect a little in my free time. I’m not trying to produce a rigorous, detailed account, just thinking casually. I’m fairly satisfied with how this semester went. I think I handled the rhythm of studying and living very well. I’ve made noticeable progress and have a lot to show for it. I should keep this up and adjust as I go.
And I have to mention love. Love is so beautiful, love. That deserves a page of its own.
